RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop preliminary drawings from rough sketches, prepares construction drawings, details and schedules using information supplied by more senior staff members.
  • Perform field measurements and develop and/or update base drawings.
  • Creative design development of an assigned specific portion of the design program.
  • Perform “pick-ups” on drawings redlined by more senior staff members.
  • Assist in developing interior finish programs and finish boards.
  • Conduct research into building materials and systems to be applied on a specific project.
  • Prepare study sketches and space planning exercises.
  • Attend project meetings and write meeting minutes.
  • Assist in general office support tasks as required.
  • Other responsibilities – as determined on an individual project basis.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of an accredited architectural or design program.
  • Working towards a professional design registration.
  • Minimum of 3 years of architectural, design or construction related experience required.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD 2009 and Revit 2010.

LEED Certification preferred.

Located in the DC Design Center, our showroom is open to the interior decorator/design trade and offers a variety of high-end fabrics and furnishings.  We are seeking an ambitious and experienced manager to achieve showroom sales and service goals and ensure the continuous, efficient operation of the showroom while providing leadership and guidance to showroom staff.  Also, oversees account management programs, seeks opportunities to increase sales and improve operations as well as participates in showroom floor and sales and service activities.

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience, a minimum of five years sales management experience in a showroom or retail environment managing a staff of five or more.  Must have the demonstrated ability to achieve or exceed sales goals as well as the ability to lead a staff to achieve goals.  Creative problem solving, progressive negotiation and account management skills also required.  Home furnishing industry experience highly desired.

Description of the Position:
The Assistant Director of Design will be responsible for the following:
 Act as primary point of contact for clients on projects.
 Manage a team of designers.
 Develop project schedules and determine project teams.
 Collaborate with Design Directors to create and drive new innovations and concepts.
 Work together with the Managing Director and Director of Design, lead and drive the creative direction on hospitality design projects including renovations, conversions and new builds.
 Review all projects with Managing Director of Design on a weekly basis.
 Review peer drawings for accuracy and completeness.
 Study current trends, color, design technology, sustainability in design and manufacturing techniques. Use knowledge and research to create innovative solutions.
 Create presentation materials that effectively communicate design concepts.
 Oversee the logistics including the purchasing, shipping and transportation of goods and materials as required to the project site.

Reporting Relationship:
The Assistant Director of Design will report to Jasmine Rai, Director of Design.

Professional Qualifications:
The desired candidate should have 8 years of hospitality design experience managing the development, design and construction of hotels and resorts. S/he should have a Bachelors Degree in Interior Design or higher degree. The candidate will possess NCIDQ certification and LEED accreditation is a plus. The candidate will have various computer skills including Auto CAD and Photoshop required. Revit, Sketch up and LEED accreditation a plus. Portfolio required.
