Michael Roberson is one of Washington’s top designers, admired and respected by her peers and acclaimed by local and national design press. Like her unexpected name, there is nothing predictable about Michael’s work, except that it is always beautiful, welcoming and fresh. She is equally comfortable creating modern or traditional rooms that combine her reverence for light and space with a sense of hospitality and an authentic brand of comfort. Michael’s designs are guaranteed to make you smile, beckon you to dream in an inviting nook or catch you by surprise with a bit of whimsy.

As a child in Texas, Michael dreamed of being a great artist, an ambition fueled by winning an art contest at the age of seven and a scholarship to the museum art school. She later discovered interior design and with it a great passion for the art she has practiced for over 25 years. Her recent projects include a stunning Colonial in Kalorama, a busy family home in Bethesda and a new condo in Rossyln with breathtaking views of Washington. Best known as a residential designer, Michael has also worked with commercial clients in major law firms and at the Headquarters of Fannie Mae Corporation where she designed the chairman’s executive reception area and conference rooms.

An inaugural member of the Washington Design Hall of Fame, she is the recipient of numerous industry awards, including the 1999 Designer of Distinction Award from the Washington Metropolitan Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). Ms. Roberson has served as a guest lecturer with the Smithsonian Associates. Her work has been widely published in House Beautiful, Southern Accents, Spaces and Traditional Home, as well as The Washingtonian, Home and Design and The Washington Post. House Beautiful has twice included her in their list of the Top 100 Designers in America. She is a frequent supporter of charity showhouses, having participated in or been a design advisor to 15 over the years. Two of her showhouse designs were chosen by House Beautiful as one of the Top Ten Showhouse Rooms of the Year. In 2007, Michael volunteered her expertise to the creation of a 10 bedroom, 21 bed homeless shelter serving women, children and families in need of a dignified respite in her community.

Michael lives in Arlington, Virginia with her husband Rob and their dog Lucy. She enjoys experimenting in her garden, entertaining family and friends and time with her grandchildren.
